What I learned in History Today

Today I learned about how African Slavery started. It started in the 1600s when the Europeans wanted a way to get their fields tended to and have work done. These people were very lazy. Soon many explorers went to Africa and captured africans and sold them to these Europeans to make money. It was an instant success. Later in time Great Britain started an act to try to stop slavery. Their efforts paid off in 1880. In the year 1880 the world was almost slave free.

In the country Haiti, Africans got there because Europeans went there for gold when Columbus discovered gold there. The Europeans drove out and killed the indian population in Haiti. The Europeans then brought their African slaves to Haiti and made them dig for gold for them. Later the slaves revolted and drove out the slavers. When Napoleon sent out troops to settle the revolt, and his men died of Yellow Fever. That is how Africans got to Haiti. Here are some pictures:

What many slave ships looked like in 1860.

A picture of Haiti. Much poverty still exists in Haiti today. A devastating earthquake recently happened as well.
