General George S. Patton
"Wars are fought with weapons, but are won with men." This is one of General George S. Patton's many famous quotes. Patton is known for his brilliant military tactics and for being one of the best military generals of all time.
General George Patton was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11th, 1885. When he was in his childhood, Patton dreamed of becoming a hero. Little did he know that later in his life he would become exactly that. Patton was interested in joining the military by the age of 8 and was encouraged by his father to do so. Later on, he joined the United States Army.
Patton attended the Virginia Military Institute for one year. Later Patton went on to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point on June 11, 1909. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. of the 15th Calvary Regiment. At the time, the United States Military Academy in West Point was the best military school in the country.
On May 26th, 1910, George Patton and Beatrice Ayer were married. Patton did not have any other family besides his wife. He wrote her very
descriptive letters pertaining to the many battles he fought and his
near-death situations.
Patton is known for his victory in the very famous "Battle of the Bulge".
He has been awarded many medals including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and two Silver stars. He fought in World War I, as Well as World War 2. During World War 1, he fought in the Saint Mihiel Campaign and the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. In World War 2, he fought in the North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Lorraine, and the Ardennes Campaigns. He also fought in the Mexican Revolution.
George Patton died on December 21, 1945. He is buried among the soldiers whom he fought with on the Battle of the Bulge. He said, "A pint of sweat saves a gallon of blood." This quote means that if you work hard in battle, many lives will be saved. General George S. Patton
saved many lives during his military career and will be remembered as one of the best generals of all time.
