What did I learn about in History today?

Steel

In the mid 1800s people were racing to produce cheap steel. Before this time, cast iron, wrought iron, and brick were the materials of choice, but their usage was limited. The cheap production of steel was a must-have. With the invention of the open hearth method, steel production was booming. The Eiffel Tower was made out of this kind of steel.
