Yes, I am doing another science experiment!
What is it about?
Osmosis
What is it?
Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane.
What did I do?
I got two bowls. One was filled with salt water, and the other with distilled water. We put one egg yolk in each one.
What Happened?
The egg yolk in the distilled water got bigger, and the egg yolk in the salt water got smaller. Why? The water concentration is higher in the yolk in salt water and since water moves from a greater concentration to a lesser concentration, the yolk in the salt water got smaller as the water moved out. But, for the egg yolk in the distilled water, there was a higher concentration of water in the bowl than in the egg. So, since water moves from a higher concentration to a lower concentration, the water moved inside the egg and therefore made the egg bigger. That's a lot of info!
What the egg yolks looked like after the experiment.
